"It's not a place to run in and buy a pair of shoes, some toilet paper and a banana," says Lehto. Rather, visitors to Kanyon should feel like they are "on holiday."

The warming around Earth's tropical belt is a signal suggesting that the "climate system has exceeded a critical threshold," which has sent tropical-zone glaciers in full retreat and will melt them completely "in the near future," said Lonnie G. Hace unas semanas llevé a los nenes a ver esta película y me gustó mucho la crítica que hace sobre la vida en la suburbia, los problemas del desparramamiento urbano y el consumo desmedido... La historia trata de este grupo de animalitos que despiertan de su hibernación para darse cuenta que casi todo el bosque ha desaparecido debido a la llegada de un desarrollo suburbano...que convenientemente ha puesto un "hedge" en toda la periferia para delimitar el espacio que le corresponde a los animalitos y el de los humanos. Ya que los animalitos sin el bosque no tienen de dónde conseguir su comida para sobrevivir, empiezan los conflictos...en la película los animalitos sobreviven al cambiar sus frutos y semillas por "good old MSG de tortilla chips" pero en la vida real la historia se parece más a la de Bruno....sniff....(lagrimita)...

Ya salió la LISTA ROJA para el 2006 de la IUCN, World Conservation Union y la SSC, Species Survival Commission...

En su Lista roja de especies amenazadas 2006, publicada este martes, la organización ecologista precisó que el número de especies amenazadas es de 16 mil 119, mientras 784 han sido declaradas extintas y 65 sólo se pueden encontrar en cautiverio o en cultivo.

Entre las especies en peligro de extinción se encuentran uno de cada tres anfibios, una cuarta parte de los árboles de coníferas del mundo, así como una de cada ocho aves y uno de cada cuatro mamíferos.

París, 2 de mayo. Los osos polares, hipopótamos, gacelas, tiburones, peces de agua dulce y flores del Mediterráneo figuran entre las más de 16 mil especies de animales y plantas en peligro de extinción, reveló la Unión Mundial para la Naturaleza

Australia, Brasil, China y México tienen el mayor número de especies amenazadas, según el reporte de la UICN, creada en 1948 con sede en Gland, Suiza, con el objetivo de influenciar, alentar y ayudar a conservar la integridad y la diversidad de la naturaleza.

La Lista roja 2006 muestra el continuo deterioro de la biodiversidad del planeta y el impacto que tiene la humanidad en la vida sobre la Tierra.

El director general de la UICN, Achin Steiner, advirtió que la pérdida de biodiversidad va en aumento.

"Las repercusiones de esta tendencia en la productividad y capacidad de recuperación de los ecosistemas y la vida, y medios de sustento de millones de personas que dependen de ellos, son de gran alcance", dijo.

La UICN indicó que la mayoría de las extinciones desde el año 1500 han ocurrido en islas oceánicas, pero en los pasados 20 años las extinciones continentales han sido tan comunes como las insulares.
