LA PAZ, Bolivia (Reuters) - Bolivia's foreign minister says coca leaves, the raw material for cocaine, are so nutritious they should be included on school breakfast menus. "Coca has more calcium than milk. It should be part of the school breakfast," Foreign Minister David Choquehuanca was quoted as saying in Friday's edition of La Razon. The new leftist government of Evo Morales, Bolivia's first indigenous president, has vowed to promote the legal uses of coca, the plant used to make cocaine, which is revered in Andean culture and is commonly chewed or made into tea. Morales, himself a former coca farmer, has pledged to fight the drugs trade but at the same time protect the cultivation of coca in Bolivia -- the world's third-biggest cocaine producer after Colombia and Peru. A coca leaf weighing 100 grams contains 18.9 calories of protein, 45.8 mg of iron, 1540 mg of calcium and vitamins A, B1, B2, E and C, which is more than most nuts, according to a 1975 study by a group of Harvard University professors.

Heat Island Effect en Puerto Rico
Heat Island Effect Puerto RicoLa revista Eos Transactions del American Geophysical UnionSan Juan ATLAS Mission. Los mismos revelan que a pesar de ser una pequeña isla tropical, Puerto Rico sufre un fenómeno llamado el urban heat island effect. Hasta ahora se pensaba que este fenómeno sólo ocurría en grandes metrópolis continentales como Los Angeles y Ciudad de Méjico. Este estudio revela nuestra significativa aportación a los cambios climáticos globales producto de nuestro desparramamiento urbano y nuestras prácticas constructivas inadecuadas entre otros desaciertos. El uso intensivo de materiales de gran masa térmica como el concreto y el asfalto son algunos de los factores que provocan este fenómeno. Como arquitectos (al menos la mayoría de nosotros) es urgente que asumamos nuestra responsabilidad sobre el asunto ya que muchas de las alternativas para mitigar este fenómeno son consideraciones sensibles a la hora de diseñar y desarrollar nuestro entorno construido.

While some cultural vectors have been faster to embrace digital models than others, no area remains untouched. Theater, like all of the fine arts, is now in the process of constructing a relationship with this new paradigm, and this is at times a very embittered struggle. The elder model of the analogic, deeply embedded in cultural institutions, is not voluntarily sharing any territory.(...)
Much more is at stake than the configuration and appearance of theater in the next century; the formation of digital theater (in the widest sense of this term) is a struggle over the micro-sociology of the performative matrix of everyday life. The digital model, like the analogic, contains both apocalypse and utopia, and the applications constructed now will in part determine the directions in which digital processes will later flow. Capitalism is primarily a digital political-economy, much as the medieval economy was primarily analogic. Pancapitalism’s use of the digital thus far has been horrifying, whether one considers the pathological separation and alienation of Taylorist production, the false democracy of consumption, the repressive apparatus of surveillance, or the biotechnologies of eugenics. Digital culture is on this same trajectory, with its primary manifestation being an invasive mass media that functions as a re-production and distribution network for the ideology of capital. Fraticelli, Special Agent in Charge, San Juan Division of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), today announces the execution of six federal search warrants aimed at preventing a potential domestic terrorist attack and the gathering of evidence related to an ongoing domestic terrorism investigation. Investigation by the FBI has revealed that this potential attack, where explosives devices were to be utilized, was directed at privately owned interests in Puerto Rico, as well as the general public.

Tengo carencia de ideas. Tengo sed. Como me gustaría masturbarme en este momento. No andar pensando en como voy a pagar el cuarto si no me dan la plata.
Estoy como hace una semana, en la oficina de seguridad social, llenando juiciosamente los formularios que preguntan en inglés básico, en bengali, chino, polaco y alemán, si sigo buscando oficio y que piden un breve reporte sobre las entrevistas con empleadores para estampar en esta oficina y producir un cheque. Venir me toma la mañana y media tarde de todos los martes. Estoy hace rato esperando a que me pongan el sello y me den lo mío, tus impuestos, rogando que me digan que todavía puedo reclamar, pues ya llevo un par de meses así y pronto tendré que pararme a trabajar para vivir al día otro par de meses. Volveré luego a rondar esta oficina los jueves por variar y me encerraré en mi tabuco a ver porno y televisión nacional con una cidra y si camiseta. Estoy vacacionando. La búsqueda de quehacer es mentirosa y cada vez me miran con más reticencia. Se que cualquier trabajo que consiga será malo y corto, cada vez estoy más reacia y más cansada.
Terreno plano. Un Ozzy Osborne esta al lado, encuerado en un chaleco y con guantecitos sin dedos a pesar de que es el verano, con su formulario también, buscando con los ojos que pase el tiempo. Aunque no nos miramos nos reconocemos por la falta de ilusiones y por usar el mismo método de supervivencia. Soy italiana por casualidad y desde que se que el fracaso tiene pago, me he dedicado al ocio, a conseguir trabajos hechizos, cada vez mas espaciados, me he acostumbrado a pedir. Huele mal, a sudor de cerveza y pucho trasnochado. El roquero a mi derecha, tiene una cruz tatuada en el brazo con el nombre de Eugene. Su piel es flácida y sus greñas evocan una farra añeja en la que todavía se hablaba del éxito. Yo no luzco mejor. Tres lunares, uno de sangre. Tiene un aire a mi papá cuando quería volver a ser rebelde en Cali. Mi viejo, tan lindo, se volvió moderado y adquirió un porte de sobriedad burguesa, es gordo y feliz, pero se le nota la carga de la nostalgia motocicletera.
Me pesa la cabeza, llevo horas aquí y me lamento con una mirada a la ventanilla vacía, el no haber sido comerciante paisa sino mesera latinoamericana. Ahora desempleada digna. Qué alineación. Camino de casa aquí, y me devuelvo una vez a la semana y ya. La vida. El tiempo pasa como agua sucia. La fatiga de no hacer nada altera los nervios, pero me acostumbré a la larga. Si me voy a almorzar pierdo el puesto y tengo mucha sed. Soy 348 hoy, el papelito todo arrugado, lo he mirado mil veces como si pudiera sacarle algo distinto al 348, el tablero cambia, el feliz ganador se levanta batiendo el papelito para que sepan que sigue allí, como en el bingo, es Ozzy. Después no cambia, solo hay dos personas atendiendo 12 ventanillas, veinte minutos, mis ojos lloriquean, llevo sentada casi 5 horas, vamos por el 213 y no cambia.
La semana pasada una señora me confesó sus sentimientos hacia este lugar, tuve que cambiarme de silla y eso que susurraba. Nuestras infames vidas repetidas y eso que ese día el servicio no fue tan inhumano como el de hoy. Era un quejido del moribundo que quiere levantarse y correr. Lázaro ha muerto, le dije al pararme, ni la voz del funcionario a través del altavoz lo levanta. Da tristeza. No me llaman. Todos aquí tenemos miedo, todos estamos timando para recibir el beneficio estatal de no morirse de hambre sino de aburrimiento. Las actitudes de enfado y desesperación son más perturbadoras a medida de que pasa el tiempo, una rebelión pienso, pero gracias al cartel en todas las esquinas de esta oficina “prohibido bajo pena cualquier comportamiento agresivo” se nos tiene a raya, es tan fácil pero tan forzado. Las cabinas son blindadas aunque la gente no es en general pendenciera en las premisas, somos al contrario dóciles por desidiosos, nadie va a levantar una silla para tirarla al mostrador, ni el más borracho. Extenuación. Conformidad pacifica, hablar al mínimo. Esforzarse es vano y hay cámaras que me intimidan. Estamos desarmados. Ya no quedamos muchos, casi van a cerrar, mi número es el infinito, tengo sueño, la tarde nula, viene el dinero, una sonrisa, intercambio con la bestia. Arrastro los pies fuera, un pub, es una pérdida.

Agentes del Negociado Federal de Investigaciones (FBI) también allanaron hoy un apartamento del Edificio De Diego en Río Piedras, pero no se ofreció información de contra quién era la orden de allanamiento. El FBI también intervino en varias residencias de independentistas en los barrios Limón y Rosario de Mayagüez, confirmó la Policía.
La Policía, a través del comandante del área oeste Héctor Agosto, también confirmó el operativo federal contra residencias de personas identificadas con el ideal de independencia, pero aclaró que ese cuerpo no está colaborando con el FBI.

In 1996, Sokal, a professor of physics at New York University, submitted a pseudoscientific paper for publication in a postmodern cultural studies journal, as an experiment to see if a humanities journal would, in Sokal's words: "publish an article liberally salted with nonsense if (a) it sounded good and (b) it flattered the editors' ideological preconceptions."The paper, titled "Transgressing the Boundaries: Toward a Transformative Hermeneutics of Quantum Gravity," [1] was published in the Spring/Summer 1996 issue of Social Text, without any review from a qualified physicist.
